Major investigated questions: respondents were presented with a list of civic and political organizations and were asked whether they belong to any of these organizations and whether they had participated in their activities or events during the past 12 months. Respondents were asked, in principle and without referring to any specific political parties operating in Lithuania, whether they would agree to become a member of a political party if offered. Those respondents who would not agree to become a member of a political party were asked why they would not agree (or would not want) to become a party member. Respondents who would agree to become a member of a political party were asked why they are currently not members of any party. The study examined whether, during the past 5 years, respondents had been encouraged by anyone to become a member of a political party. Questions were also asked about who, in respondents’ opinion, formulates the main programmatic positions of a party and prepares election programs, who makes the most important decisions within the party, who plays the most important role in compiling candidate lists for the Seimas and municipal councils, and what primarily determines the success of a political career within a party. Respondents were asked to evaluate their own views on the “left–right” scale and, using the same scale, to assess the major Lithuanian political parties. Socio-demographic characteristics: gender, age, education, occupation, nationality, monthly income per one family member, place of residence.
