<b><i> The purpose of the study</i></b>: to investigate Lithuania`s citizens opinion about public security institutions. <br><b><i>Major investigated questions</i></b>: respondents were asked to indicate what kind of public safety issues are most important in Lithuania. They were also asked whether they had contacts with public safety agencies during the past five years and how they assess work of these agencies. Respondents were asked to evaluate certain measures intended to improve work quality of public safety agencies. Another question was about the most important sources of information on public safety. Respondents' feeling of safety was also evaluated and they were asked whether they or any of their family members became a victim of crime during the last five years. Respondents were asked what criminogenic situation is and what the risk of becoming a crime victim is. Those respondents, who felt that there is a possibility of becoming a crime victim, were asked where this could happen. Respondents were also asked about their contact with the police during the past five years. <br><b><i>Socio-demographic characteristics</i></b>: gender, age, education, occupation, nationality, monthly family income per one family member, place of residence, use of the Internet.

From the list of streets required amount of primary sampling units were selected using systematic random sampling.</li> <li>In the second stage, in each selected primary sampling unit in the strata of county capitals and other cities/towns 10 households were selected. The first household was selected from the table of random numbers. Villages with no streets were excluded from the sample.

In order to check the quality of interviewer's work the data collector contacted by phone 10 percent of respondents. Procedure of sampling and compliance with questionnaire instructions were verified. Logic and accuracy of filling out questionnaires were checked by the data collector's department of interviewers.

10 percent of the data were checked for questionnaire keying in quality by the data input department. Possible mistakes of coding and congruence of answers to questions in the questionnaire were additionally checked.
