<ul> <li>In the columns “syphilis_registered_cases” and “acute_gonorrhoea_registered_cases”, the data for 1940–1943 are reported under the category “dangerous cases” (German: gefährliche Krankenfälle), following the terminology used in the source.</li> <li>The population figures for 1947–1958 were calculated by the authors of the table based on the natural population increase data provided by Ministry of Health (MoH). The calculations started from the population figure at the end of the reporting year 1959 - the first official population figure published by the MoH - from which the natural population increase for each preceding year was successively subtracted.</li> <li>The rates per 100,000 population of patients with syphilis and acute gonorrhoea registered at the end of the reporting year for 1952–1976 were calculated by the authors of this table.</li> <li>The authors of this table calculated the rates per 100,000 population of syphilis cases (for 1953–1958, 1963–1969 and 1973–1974) and acute gonorrhoea cases (for 1953–1963, 1969 and 1973–1974) registered during the reporting year.</li> </ul>

The newly diagnosed cases registered in 1944 are presented for the first three months of the year. The absolute numbers of newly diagnosed cases and patients registered at the end of the reporting year for 1953–1974 are incomplete, as they do not include data from all healthcare institutions; the figures presented in the table were calculated by summing the data reported by the healthcare institutions that submitted reports. Incidence rates per 100,000 population were based on the original source.
