<b><i> The purpose of the study</i></b>: to give information on the Lithuanians' attitudes towards the European Union and their awareness about the membership of Lithuanian in this international organization. <br><b><i>Major investigated questions</i></b>: respondents were asked whether the information about Lithuania's membership in the EU is sufficient and whether they are interested in Lithuania's membership in the EU and in EU as a whole. Respondents were asked in what information about Lithuania's membership in the EU they are interested and where this information should be published. They were also asked whether they know about the European information centers - Europe Direct - in Lithuania and whether they used services of these centers to get information about Lithuania's membership in the EU and EU issues. Respondents were asked whether they know when Lithuania will chair the EU and whether they would like to receive more information about the preparations for this process. They were also asked whether they will participate in the European Parliament elections in 2009, whether they know what the members of European Parliament representing Lithuania and whether they would like to receive more information about the work of representatives of Lithuania in the European Parliament. Respondents were asked whether they had heard about the new Lisbon Treaty, are familiar with the content of this Treaty whether the information about this Treaty is sufficient. They were also asked how the interests of Lithuania are defended in the EU. Respondents were asked whether Lithuania is an equal member of the EU and if not to indicate the reasons why they believe that Lithuania is not an equal member of the EU. Respondents were also asked whether the EU should continue the integration of new members and if so, what states should become new members of the EU. Respondents were asked whether they see themselves as Europeans and whether they are proud of their country. <br><b><i>Socio-demographic characteristics</i></b>: gender, age, education, occupation, nationality, monthly family income per one family member, place of residence.

From the list of streets required amount of primary sampling units were selected using systematic random sampling.</li> <li>In the second stage, in each selected primary sampling unit in the strata of county capitals and other cities/towns 10 households were selected. The first household was selected from the table of random numbers. Villages with no streets were excluded from the sample.

In order to check the quality of interviewer's work the data collector contacted by phone 10 percent of respondents. Procedure of sampling and compliance with questionnaire instructions were verified. Logic and accuracy of filling out questionnaires were checked by the data collector's department of interviewers.

10 percent of the data were checked for questionnaire keying in quality by the data input department. Possible mistakes of coding and congruence of answers to questions in the questionnaire were additionally checked.
