<b><i> The purpose of the study</i></b>: to give information on the Lithuanians' attitudes towards the European Union and their awareness about the membership of Lithuanian in this international organization. <br><b><i>Major investigated questions</i></b>: respondents were asked how they would vote in a referendum on Lithuania's accession to the EU and when it would be particularly relevant for Lithuania to join the EU. They were also asked how the integration into the EU would affect social and political spheres in the country. They were also asked whether the foreign policy of Lithuania should be more oriented to the West (EU, NATO), to Russia (CIS), or to seek total neutrality. Respondents were asked what newspapers they read in order to get information about political, economic and social events. In general, they were also asked whether the information provided by the Lithuanian mass media is sufficient and whether, during the last 4 weeks, they watched TV, listened to radio, read newspaper or other things in which Lithuania's accession to the EU and its conditions which was discussed, also whether they discussed this topic themselves. Respondents assessed their knowledge about the EU and the negotiations on Lithuania's accession to the EU. Respondents were asked where they mostly search for information about the EU and Lithuania's accession to the EU and whether they were satisfied with the information received from the European information centers. The actions of different state institutions in preparation for accession to the EU were also assessed. Respondents were asked about Lithuania's position in negotiations on accession to the EU and what methods of receiving information about the EU and Lithuania's integration into the EU they prefer. They were also asked to evaluate the actions of Lithuanian state institutions in informing the public about the Lithuania's accession to the EU and whether such kind of information is sufficient in order to deepen the knowledge about Lithuania's accession to the EU. Respondents were asked whether they would like to increase their knowledge about the EU and the consequences of Lithuania's accession to the EU if they had enough time and opportunities, and whether they are interested in the process of accession to the EU (the negotiations). They were also asked how their life, and life of Lithuanian citizens, would change if Lithuania joined the EU. Respondents were asked for which party they would vote in the Seimas elections if these elections take place next Sunday. <br><b><i>Socio-demographic characteristics</i></b>: gender, age, education, occupation, nationality, monthly family income per one family member, place of residence, region.

From the list of streets required amount of primary sampling units were selected using systematic random sampling.</li> <li>In the second stage, in each selected primary sampling unit in the strata of county capitals and other cities/towns 10 households were selected. The first household was selected from the table of random numbers. Villages with no streets were excluded from the sample.

In order to check the quality of interviewer's work the data collector contacted by phone 10 percent of respondents. Procedure of sampling and compliance with questionnaire instructions were verified. Logic and accuracy of filling out questionnaires were checked by the data collector's department of interviewers.

10 percent of the data were checked for questionnaire keying in quality by the data input department. Possible mistakes of coding and congruence of answers to questions in the questionnaire were additionally checked.
