Description
The purpose of the study: to identify Lithuania's citizens' attitudes towards European Union and their opinion on the membership of Lithuania in the EU.
Major investigated questions: respondents were asked do they support the membership of Lithuania in the EU and point out main reasons for this support (improvement of private well-being; increase of security of Lithuania; reduction of Russian influence; European Union financially supports less developed countries, other). Respondents assessed the sufficiency / insufficiency of information on Lithuania's admission to the European Union; pointed out what information related to the EU membership of Lithuania is the most interesting to respondents (EU institutions; business opportunities in the EU market; employment opportunities in EU countries, consumer rights protection, other). Respondents also gave judgement on the changes that take place in Lithuania after joining the European Union in May, 2004: expectations of positive changes and fears of concrete negative changes. Also probed were respondents' attitudes towards the readiness of Lithuania for EU membership; discussions on topics of oncoming membership with one's people, relatives, friends.

The description of the dataset (metadata) is freely and openly available to both registered and unregistered users of the LiDA Dataverse repository under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0).

LiDA processed data files containing a tag “Data” in their title are available to registered users of the LiDA Dataverse repository under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International licence (CC BY-SA 4.0).

Files storing survey questionnaires and cards and containing a tag “Questionnaire(s)” in their title are available to registered users of the LiDA Dataverse repository under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International licence (CC BY-SA 4.0).

Access to files storing previous versions of metadata and/or data, as well as files storing data processing syntax, and containing a tag “Archive” in their title, is restricted. Access to these files is granted by the LiDA Dataverse repository administrators upon request via email at data@ktu.lt. Users who are granted access to these files undertake to use them only for their own purposes and not to disclose them to any third parties.

Access to files storing LiDA internal documents related to the published dataset, and containing a tag “Internal_documents” in their title, is not granted. These files are intended for internal LiDA use only.

In order to ensure the confidentiality of the information stored in the LiDA Dataverse repository, users must agree to the Confidentiality Declaration of the LiDA Dataverse Repository Users before using any data or other files contained in this dataset. The declaration of confidentiality obliges LiDA Dataverse repository users to maintain the confidentiality of any information to which they have been granted access, if this information directly or indirectly identifies specific individuals. It warns that intentional or unintentional disregard for this pledge incurs liability under the data protection laws of the Republic of Lithuania.

Publications based on information and resources stored in the LiDA Dataverse repository must include a reference to LiDA in the footnotes or in the bibliography/reference section of these publications. This requirement aims to ensure that references to LiDA are included in social science citation indexes. When citing datasets stored in the LiDA Dataverse repository, it is suggested to follow recommendations from the CESSDA Data Citation Guide.
