Description
| This dataset contains the Social Democratic Party of Lithuania (LSDP) statutes.
The Social Democratic Party of Lithuania (LSDP) is a Lithuanian political party active since 1989.
LSDP is the oldest historic Lithuanian political party, which was established in 1896. During the first years of the restored Lithuanian state in 1918, the LSDP actively participated in political life, and after the 1926 Seimas (Lithuanian Parliament) elections, it became a member of the ruling coalition. However, after the 1926 coup d'état, the activities of political parties were restricted, and in 1936 all parties were banned, with the sole exception of the Lithuanian Nationalist Union. In 1940, following the occupation of Lithuania by the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, only the Lithuanian Communist Party was a legal political force. As the occupation regime eased, the first steps toward the restoration of the LSDP activities were taken even before the restoration of Lithuania's independence in 1990: the LSDP restoration initiative group, established on April 27, 1989; the LSDP restoration conference, held on August 12, 1989. On December 18, 1999, the first split of LSDP occurred, when the Lithuanian Party "Social Democracy 2000" was established. On January 27, 2001, LSDP merged with the Democratic Labour Party of Lithuania (LDDP). On March 24, 2018, the second split of the LSDP took place, when the Lithuanian Social Democratic Labour Party was founded. |
