On 10 January 1991, following the resignation of the Prime Minister of the First Government of the Republic of Lithuania, Kazimira Danutė Prunskienė, and the entire cabinet, the Supreme Council of the Republic of Lithuania appointed a new Prime Minister, Albertas Šimėnas, and approved the Second Government with the same composition. On 13 January 1991, after the beginning of Soviet aggression, Prime Minister A. Šimėnas did not attend the parliamentary sessions held that day, and his whereabouts were unknown. On the same day, the Supreme Council of the Republic of Lithuania dismissed A. Šimėnas and his cabinet and appointed Gediminas Vagnorius as the head of the Third Government. The Second Government functioned for only three days; therefore, this dataset does not include the program of the government led by A. Šimėnas, as it was not adopted. |
