Dataverse collection Project Resilience 1883-2023 hosts historical statistics data collected in the research project "Demographic, economic, energetic, food, and epidemiological resilience of modern Lithuanian society and nation (1883-2023)" implemented by a team of Vilnius University researchers. The project is implemented as part of the competitive priority scientific research program "Increasing resilience of society and management of crises in the context of the contemporary geopolitical events", funded by the Research Council of Lithuania (RCL). The principal investigator of the project is prof. Zenonas Norkus.

This project applies the modern theory of the resilience of complex adaptive systems to the comparative historical sociological analysis of the resilience of the modern Lithuanian nation and society, studying the change of the basins of their demographic, economic, energetic, nutritional, and epidemiological resilience as well as the development of the Lithuanian resilience discourse itself. When the publishers of "Aušra" announced the birth of a modern Lithuanian nation in 1883, its large part already lived in the diaspora, which (as "reserve Lithuania") was and remains the main factor of the resilience of Lithuanian society. Outmigration slowed down population growth, but without a large and strong Lithuanian diaspora in the U.S., neither the creation of the modern independent state of Lithuania in 1918-1920 nor its restoration in 1990-1991 would have been possible. Therefore, the study of demographic resilience addresses not only the resilience of Lithuanian society to depopulation but also the resilience of the Lithuanian diaspora to rapid assimilation. The study of economic resilience compares the speed of the economy's return to sustainable growth after economic crises and catastrophes. The analysis of energy resilience starts with the concerns of contemporaries about its accelerated deforestation in the 19th century and closes with the contemporary dilemmas of nuclear energetics. A study of modern Lithuania’s strong resilience to starvation (but not to pestilence) discloses historical changes in its food balance and self-sufficiency. The diachronic comparison of different periods in terms of engineering, ecological, proactive, and existential resilience is supplemented by a comparison of the resilience of Lithuania and neighboring Baltic countries. The examination of the proactive resilience of the Lithuanian nation and society is grounded in the study of the reflections of the threats and challenges to their resilience in the press, literature, and art.

Dataverse kolekcijoje Projektas Atsparumas 1883-2023 publikuojami Vilniaus universiteto tyrėjų įgyvendinamo projekto „Demografinis, ekonominis, energetinis, maistinis ir epidemiologinis moderniosios Lietuvos visuomenės ir tautos atsparumas (1883-2023)“ istorinės statistikos duomenys. Projektas vykdomas kaip Lietuvos mokslo tarybos (LMT) finansuojamos konkursinės prioritetinių mokslinių tyrimų programos „Visuomenės atsparumo stiprinimas ir krizių valdymas šiuolaikinių geopolitinių įvykių kontekste“ dalis. Projekto vadovas - prof. Zenonas Norkus.

Projekto tikslas yra pritaikyti šiuolaikinę sudėtingų adaptyvių sistemų atsparumo teoriją moderniosios Lietuvos tautos ir visuomenės atsparumo lyginamajai istorinei sociologinei analizei, ištiriant jų demografinio, ekonominio, energetinio, maistinio ir epidemiologinio atsparumo baseinų kaitą, o taip pat ir paties lietuviškojo atsparumo diskurso raidą. Moderniosios Lietuvos pradžia laikomi 1883 m., kai „Aušros“ leidėjai iškėlė moderniąją Lietuvos tautos idėją. Jau tuo metu dalis jos gyveno diasporoje, kuri (kaip „atsarginė Lietuva“) buvo ir lieka pagrindinis Lietuvos visuomenės atsparumo veiksnys. Emigracija lėtino gyventojų skaičiaus augimą, bet be didelės ir stiprios lietuvių diasporos JAV nebuvo įmanomas nei modernios nepriklausomos Lietuvos valstybės sukūrimas 1918–1920 m., nei jos atkūrimas 1990–1991metais. Todėl demografinio atsparumo tyrimas apima net tik Lietuvos visuomenės atsparumą depopuliacijai, ir lietuvių diasporos atsparumą greitai asimiliacijai. Ekonominio atsparumo tyrimas lygina ūkio grįžimo į tvaraus augimo kelią greitį po ekonominių krizių ir katastrofų skirtingais moderniosios Lietuvos istorijos laikotarpiais. Moderniosios Lietuvos energetinio atsparumo istorija prasidėjo ir dabar tebegyvu amžininkų susirūpinimu dėl 19 a. paspartėjusio miškų kirtimo ir baigiasi jos branduolinės energetikos dilemomis. Jos stipraus atsparumo badui tyrimas atskleidžia istorinius maisto balanso ir savipakankamumo pokyčius. Renkami ir analizuojami duomenys apie modernios Lietuvos visuomenės patirtus epidemiologinius šokus, sukeltus senų ir naujų epideminių ligų. Skirtingų modernios Lietuvos istorijos laikotarpių diachroninis palyginimą inžinerinio, ekologinio, proaktyvaus ir egzistencinio atsparumo požiūriu papildo Lietuvos ir kaimyninių šalių (visų pirma, Baltijos) atsparumo lyginimas. Nagrinėjant Lietuvos tautos ir visuomenės proaktyvų atsparumą, tiriama grėsmių ir iššūkių moderniosios Lietuvos atsparumui atspindžių raiška spaudoje, literatūroje ir mene.
